Episode 6 - The One with the Guilty Scientist

Prize Giveaway!!!! The lovely Lisa Marie (theyarngoeson on Ravelry) sent me some amazing nail art stickers from I Heart Nail Art (www.etsy.com/shop/iheartnailart). So, two will go to some lucky viewers. I’m keeping the rest. He he. She was also incredibly sweet and gave me a Yarn Pop bag and a beautiful notepad. Thanks so much! You rock!

What’s NOT on the needles (YAAAAAYYYY!!!!) –
Bakktus Scarf Strikkelise http://www.flickr.com/photos/norwayneedles/2963651011 US 2 in Wollmeise 100% in a pretty red color that makes me so happy!

What’s on the needles still -
We’re on the heel for the Mona (Cookie A Knit. Sock. Love. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mona) in Pigeonroof Studios Original sock colorway Underworld on size 1.5/2.5 mm Addi turbos. http://www.ravelry.com/projects/knitterlybooklady/mona
Also on the heel for the Wedge: (Cookie A Knit. Sock. Love. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/wedge-2) in Little Red Bicycle Snowflake Sock colorway Cherry Blossom on size ½.25 mm Hiya Hiya Sharps. http://www.ravelry.com/projects/knitterlybooklady/wedge

What’s on the Nails –Swatch time! Swatched Essie Damsel in a Dress that was 50% off at Peninsula Beauty Store. I used Nailtek II just as a base and 2 coats of Julep Freedom this time to minimize shrinkage. Already chipping, and it was streaky when putting it on. So, meh. The color is amazing, but other than the brush it was somewhat of a pain.  Probably going to use it as a base for some glitter polishes.

*WARNING, MATURE AUDIENCE ONLY!!!* Book talk – Theme for this book talk: Science! Bonk by Mary Roach http://www.amazon.com/Bonk-Curious-Coupling-Science-Sex/dp/0393334791/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1364683751&sr=1-1&keywords=bonk
Mary Roach makes science fun! Warning, this is definitely going to make you blush and laugh at the same time. You may want to warn people around you on your commute. This book reminds me very much of my friend Listy because when we were first getting to know each other, she told me about this book.

My wish List – Softy Kitty by Amy’s Nail Boutique: http://www.etsy.com/listing/119681070/soft-kitty-5ml?ref=usr_faveitems

Book talk – Theme for this book talk: what book inspires you. Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I know this book got some flack in regards to how it deals with depression and life crises, etc. But it helped me many times when my life was starting to feel like it was either falling or standing still. It gave me perspective that others could not. http://www.amazon.com/Eat-Pray-Love-Everything-Indonesia/dp/0143038419/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1364083457&sr=8-1&keywords=eat+pray+love

Interview with Ji Baek - Rescue Beauty

I thought this interview with Ji Baek, creator of Rescue Beauty Lounge nail polishes, to be interesting. I always knew that she would not approve of the gel/shellac, but I would think she would be into the designs.

Episode 4 - The One with the Um, the Pirate, and the Birds Walking into a Bar

What’s NOT on the needles - Vilai by Cookie A. BMF STR Lightweight in Titania Size 1 2.25 mm Hiya Hiya needles http://www.ravelry.com/projects/knitterlybooklady/vilai

What’s on the needles still -
Bakktus Scarf Strikkelise http://www.flickr.com/photos/norwayneedles/2963651011 US 2 in Wollmeise 100% in a pretty red color that makes me so happy!

What’s on the Nails – aEngland in Jane Eyre (part of their Gothic Beauties collection). Look familiar? he he. Nail Tek II for base and first top coat (must make the nails stronger!), two coats, then Julep Freedom Polymer top coat to make it oh so pretty and shellac-like.

Reminiscent of Jane Austen novels with countryside behaviors but modern twist (Muslim/Christian dualism), but still looking into relationships between family, others, etc.

Spiced: a pastry chef’s true stories of trials by fire, after-hours exploits, and what really goes on in the kitchen: http://www.amazon.com/Spiced-Pastry-Stories-After-HoursExploits-Kitchen/dp/B0042P59VO/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1363459771&sr=1-1&keywords=spiced

Fun memoir/expose about what really happens in restaurant kitchens. Fluffy fun, not really a brain teaser. If you enjoy reading memoirs/non-fiction and food, this is a good starter book.

My wish List – None because I have been horrible these past few weeks. So we go on to…

The Parade of the Guilty Pleasures – Julep March Maven box: added on Teri & Freedom Polymer
Apparently Julep also gives Mavens a secret store…Spring Fling with Jennifer (duh…), Robin, and Gloria

Peninsula Beauty Source (love!) gives members one free nail polish in their birthday month. http://www.peninsulabeauty.com/locations.htm?gclid=CP-Q7Kf1gbYCFch7Qgod7H0A8w
So, got OPI Liquid Sand line in Stay the Night. http://www.amazon.com/OPI-Mariah-Carey-Collection-Lacquer/dp/B00AQH09DK. I want to do what I’ve seen in Pinterest: putting a shiny top coat (even though takes away texture).

Couldn’t resist this one: Revlon Nail Art Expressionist: http://www.amazon.com/Revlon-Nail-Art-Expressionist-Vincent/dp/B00A2X9VVE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363460634&sr=8-1&keywords=revlon+nail+art+expressionist. I foresee some dotting tool fun with this one.

The Coffee - http://www.sanmarcocoffee.com/ Don’t do the peanut butter!!!!

(NEW SEGMENT!) Book talkThe last nude by Ellis Avery (delightful read, delicious prose, wasn’t sure in beginning. Not for kids under 20 though). http://www.amazon.com/The-Last-Nude-Ellis-Avery/dp/B0085S8VWI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1362257932&sr=8-1&keywords=The+last+nude

If interested in who is Tamara De Lempicka and her art: http://www.delempicka.org/

The Wikipedia article is not good enough. The librarian in me cringes and will not put it in if it does not have enough citations and references. If you want to use that as a baseboard, go for it. But I think the above links will be a better start.

Beloved by Toni Morrison – love love love. Read it during time of Roots. High school teacher (always said it was difficult, but it wasn’t. Why it took so long). I really think this should be high school recommended (necessary) reading. http://www.amazon.com/Beloved-Toni-Morrison/dp/1400033411/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1362257977&sr=1-2&keywords=beloved

Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet – what I am reading now. Seems interesting so far. Still getting to know the parts to make up the novel. http://www.amazon.com/Pillars-Earth-Ken-Follett/dp/B002570J0M/ref=sr_1_5?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1362258025&sr=1-5&keywords=pillars+of+the+earth+by+ken+follett
