Episode 15 - The One with All the Energy

ETA: I can’t seem to get the episode onto Podbean (my host) to put it on Itunes tonight. Even when I upgraded and deleted most of my episodes! For now this episode will only be on Youtube until I can figure something out. I’m sorry for the inconvenience!

If you need to catch up to my earlier episodes, you can find them here: http://www.youtube.com/user/jholowich

What’s on the needles -
Self-Striping!!!! – My Knitted Heart Vanilla Socks from Elizabeth Suarez (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/my-knitted-heart-vanilla-socks) (kind of…I may have played with it a little while watching Star Trek) with Friday Studios self-striping sock (not sure what base though...I think Monday). Size US 1 ½ (2.5 mm) Addi Turbo needles.

One chart and a quarter done for the Lace and Cable Socks – Another pattern from Wendy Johnson’s Socks from the Toe Up. Also done with yarn from Lisa Souza’s BFL Sock in Sky Drama colorway. Size US 1 (2.25 mm) Hiya Hiya Sharp needles.

Some work was done with the Traditional Gansey Socks – Pattern from Wendy Johnson’s Socks from the Toe Up. Yarn from Lisa Souza’s BFL Sock in The Shore colorway. Size US 1 ½ (2.5 mm) Addi Turbo needles.

What’s on the Nails –  Sensationail Jelly Sherbet gel polish all on its sparkly own. I had swatched the Hue Ocean Drive nail polish that I got from the amazing ayarngoeson, but it died because my nails were hit by the nubbinizer and the chip fairy. L

Book Talk/What I’m Reading –  Beach reading! Book #1: The Dirty Girls Social Club by Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez: http://www.amazon.com/Dirty-Girls-Social-Club-Novel/dp/0312313829/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1371956162&sr=1-1&keywords=the+dirty+girls+social+club

What’s on the needles -
I did a lot of work on the Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Basic Pie Shawl – Pattern from The Knitter’s Almanac. Yarn from Abstract Fiber Matisse (100% SW BFL) in their Seattle colorway. Size US 2 (2.75 mm) Hiya Hiya Sharp needles. Have added to it the spirit Moraie in Silkie Socks that Rock and will add a gray yarn from Ranch of the Oaks.

NO work for Traditional Gansey Socks – Pattern from Wendy Johnson’s Socks from the Toe Up. Yarn from Lisa Souza’s BFL Sock in The Shore colorway. Size US 1 ½ (2.5 mm) Addi Turbo needles.

NO work for Lace and Cable Socks – Another pattern from Wendy Johnson’s Socks from the Toe Up. Also done with yarn from Lisa Souza’s BFL Sock in Sky Drama colorway. Size US 1 (2.25 mm) Hiya Hiya Sharp needles.

What’s on the Nails –  SinFul Colors Into the Blue and Hard Candy Black Tie Optional. I also put Sally Hansen’s gel polish Shall We Dance. So far the gel mani is handling really well.

Book Talk & Announcement of the podcast’s first KAL/PAL! Theme this week is Children’s Literature, which ties into my announcement of our first knit-a-long and paint-a-long! Knit anything based off children’s/young adult fiction (Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Twilight, etc.) or/and paint your nails with the same theme. It’ll be great!

My favorite reads when I was young was Anne of Green Gables, Are You There God, This is Margaret, and The BFG. What was your’s?

My wishlist -  For the nails: Literary Lacquers - http://www.etsy.com/shop/LiteraryLacquer
For the yarn: Dye for wool - http://www.etsy.com/shop/Dyeforwool

Episode 12 - The One with the Review of Doom!

Podcast Powered By Podbean

What’s OFF the needles!
Pointelle has a HO! – Pattern is from Cookie A’s Knit. Sock. Love book (I promise, last one!). Yarn from Lisa Souza Sock! Merino in Berry Poppin Colorway. Size US 1 (2.25 mm) Hiya Hiya Sharp needles.

What’s on the needles -
Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Basic Pie Shawl – Pattern from The Knitter’s Almanac.

Traditional Gansey Socks – Pattern from Wendy Johnson’s Socks from the Toe Up. Yarn from Lisa Souza’s BFL Sock in The Shore colorway. Size US 1 ½ (2.5 mm) Addi Turbo needles.

Lace and Cable Socks – Another pattern from Wendy Johnson’s Socks from the Toe Up. Also done with yarn from Lisa Souza’s BFL Sock in Sky Drama colorway. Size US 1 (2.25 mm) Hiya Hiya Sharp needles.

Self-Striping!!!! – My Knitted Heart Vanilla Socks from Elizabeth Suarez (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/my-knitted-heart-vanilla-socks) with Friday Studios self-striping sock (not sure what base though...I think Monday). Size US 1 ½ (2.5 mm) Addi Turbo needles.

What’s on the Nails –  OPI Muppet line: Base is Wonka Wonka and the sparkly glittery top is Excuse Moi. Love the sparkle! Hit the spot just right.

THE REVIEW OF DOOM!!! – I reviewed Sally Hansen’s Insta Gel Strips Starter Kit. http://sallyhansen.com/products/nails/gel-nail-color/salon-insta-gel-strips-starter-kit. Overall, the kit is okay. The strips just did not work with my tiny, baby fingers. But it is easy for those that are not into fiddly things, and the LED lamp can be used with the paint and other products. Other than that, I think it would be better to get the gel paint starter kit than this. This starter kit was around $30. It is worth the extra money to plunk down for the gel paint starter kit instead (http://sallyhansen.com/products/nails/gel-nail-color/salon-gel-polish-starter-kit)
